Attendance at an orientation is required.  Classes are weekly and held at Hope Connections unless otherwise noted.  Please RSVP when indicated.  Comfortable clothing and physician approval recommended.


Weekly Classes

Gentle Yoga

Mondays, 10 - 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., led by Liz Chabra, E-RYT

1st Monday of the month, 6 - 7 pm at Aquilino Cancer Center, led by Susan Young, MS, E-RYT

Wednesdays, 10 - 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., led by Susan Young, MS, E-RYT 
Thursdays, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, led by Susan Young, MS, E-RYT

These classes combine stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises to help improve muscle tone, aid in stress management, and promote a sense of well-being.

Inner Peace & Healing
Tuesdays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

While living with cancer, inner resources are often depleted.  Join energy healer Afie Lattimer as she provides information, insights, and exercises to increase a sense of inner peace and personal empowerment.


Pink Ribbon Pilates
Wednesdays, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Jill Studley, Certified Pilates Instructor, leads this class for breast cancer survivors. Healthy lifestyle and positive body image are part of the experience as participants are challenged to regain strength and mobility.


Knitting, Stitch & Chat
Fridays, 10 - 11 a.m.

Kathryn Winsberg, with 42 years  of knitting experience and endless patience, leads this weekly group. In addition to knitting, lovers of all forms of stitch craft and handiwork are welcome to attend. Experience is not required.


Thursdays, 5 -7 pm
Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns.  Facilitated by Santa Oldham, this program is all about Zentangle.  Participants must supply their own materials.  No artistic talent is required.


Guided Mindful Meditation
Fridays, 11:30 am -12:30 pm

May Benatar, PhD, LCSW-C leads this weekly group.  Modern science has confirmed that a meditation practice actually changes the brain, strengthens immunity, reduces anxiety, and lowers blood pressure.  Join May and learn the skill that once acquired will benefit you in mind, body and spirit.


Monthly Classes:

Book Club
1st Wednesday of each month, 2-3 p.m.

Facilitated by Katy Cooke, this group will read and discuss books recommended by participants. 


Emotional Freedom Techniques (Tapping)
3rd Thursday of each month, 10:30 -11:30 a.m. 

Bev Nerenberg provides instruction in EFT, often referred to as acupuncture without needles, to help manage and reduce stress and pain, on physically and emotionally. 


Expressive Art
2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, 1 - 2:30 pm

Judy Goldstein leads several activities for participants to use art materials to express themselves. No art experience necessary.


Hypnosis for Symptom Reduction
1st Thursday of each month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. 

Hypnosis has been shown to decrease pain, anxiety and stress as well as other symptoms related to cancer treatment.  Certified hypnotherapist Don Pelles will teach self-hypnosis techniques that will assist in the management of these symptoms.


Poetry Club
3rd Wednesday of each month, 2:30 - 4:30pm
This is an opportunity for poetry lovers to gather together and share their love of poetry.  Facilitated by Santa Oldman, the group will read and discuss favorite poems. 

Reiki Share
2nd Thursday of each month, 10:30 -11:30 a.m.

Reiki Master Susan Kilborn provides an understanding of the principles of Reiki and techniques for individuals to achieve healing effects through self-treatment.


Relaxation & Tranquility
4th Thursday of each month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Let your body feel relaxation and your mind experience tranquility. Led by Larry Bricker, M.Ed. & Reiki Master, learn and practice techniques to minimize pain, reduce stress and increase feelings of wellness. Methods used include visual imagery, progressive relaxation, Reiki energy healing and meditation.
