In October, The Washington Post Express released its "Best of 2012" list. This list represents the best of everything the DC area has to offer, as chosen by Washington Post readers. Hope Connections for Cancer Support is honored to be named the third best volunteer organization in the region, and the top pick in Maryland. Hope Connections' loves its volunteers and would not be able to function without them. Many thanks to all of our volunteers and those who nominated and voted for us!
Paula Rothenberg, President & CEO of Hope Connections for Cancer Support, is one of the 2012 recepients of The Toyota Tribute to Working Women. For the past 18 years, ABC7 WJLA-TV and The Washington Area Toyota Dealers have been honoring the many ways that women are making a difference at home, at work and in our community. The Toyota Tribute to Working Women campaign has attracted thousands of entries from all over the Washington Metropolitan Area. Paula was introduced at the October 20th awards ceremony by Tamara Darvish, Vice President & General Manager of DARCARS Automotive. She gave a moving tribute to Paula's work in the community and to the value of Hope Connections' programs to people affected by cancer.
On a bright sunny Wednesday morning in mid-September, 144 golfers, from experienced players to novices, teed off at Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville, MD for our most successful golf tournament to date. Drive Out Cancer, which raised $80,000 for Hope Connections for Cancer Support, sold out for the third year in a row and saw the introduction of a fun new “Beat The Schmoe” competition. The golf was made even more interesting by the heavy rains of the preceding day, which turned sandtraps into water hazards, prompting inventive uses of rakes to fish for submerged golf balls. As always though, the course was beautifully maintained and a good time was had by all.
At the end of a great morning of golf, the players enjoyed a hearty lunch and applauded the winners of this year’s tournament. Tournament Chair Scott Ogden distributed the awards, generously donated by Joel Kaplan of Specialties, Inc., and expressed his gratitude to the Tournament Committee members and to all the generous sponsors of this year’s tournament, including Hope Sponsor, RSI Waste & Recycling Equipment Rentals., and Signature Sponsors, Commercial Restoration Group and Neil Kishter. Mark your calendars for next year's tournament on September 18, 2013.
